Gilltown Stud, home of the legendary Sea The Stars and dual Derby winner Harzand, is among more than 25 stallion farms that will open their doors for the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Irish Stallion Trail this Friday and Saturday - January 10 and 11.

Gilltown’s manager Pat Downes, who is a big supporter of the concept now in its sixth year, said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity for people who are not directly involved in the industry but are enthusiasts to come and see horses that they haven’t seen since they were racing.

“There was always a gap in particular with Flat horses who we don’t see racing over too many years as they were off to stud and never seen again.

“The enjoyment that people get from being able to come to the stud at the Irish Stallion Trail and see these horses again gives them tremendous pleasure.”

He added, “Sea The Stars is in great order and is having a wonderful stallion career since he retired here. There were great expectations for him when he retired to stud being such a fantastic racehorse and he hasn’t disappointed.

“He’s one of the leading sires in the world and his results are exceptional. Hopefully he has a long career ahead of him yet.”
