Seattle Slew dies Former American Triple Crown winner Seattle Slew died in his sleep today, 25 years to the day after winning the Kentucky Derby.The 28-year-old stallion died at a farm in Lexington where he had been moved after the second of two operations on his spine.In 1977, Seattle Slew became the 10th Triple Crown winner in history, taking the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont. He won 14 races in his career, from 17 starts.The horse earned more than $1.2 million and sired 101 stakes winners.
