Shantou dies aged 28 Leading national hunt sire Shantou has died at the age of 28. The Burgage Stud resident was pensioned from covering duties at the end of last year and his owners revealed today that they “had to say goodbye due to the infirmities of his old age.” The son of Alleged sired Grade 1 winners Briar Hill, Death Duty, Morning Assembly and The Storyteller. Shantou was a three time Group 1 winner himself and gave John Gosden his first English classic success when landing the 1996 St Leger.
