John Shinnick made the most of his opportunity on Bill Durkan's Holy See in the rated novice hurdle over two miles three furlongs in Limerick.

The 11/2 shot moved nicely into the head of affairs approaching the straight and Shinnick soon peeked left to see Ifallgoeswell looming large on his outer.

Shinnick soon nudged his mount along and a good jump ensued over two out. Ifallgoeswell was still bang there, but another good jump at the last saw Holy See land in a lovely stride.

Shinnick kept him rolling home to hold Ifallgoeswell (5/1) by half a length. There was a yawning gap of 15 lengths back to third-placed West Of Bally (5/4f).

Assistant trainer Gary Bannon said: “We had him in the novice handicap at Leopardstown, but we thought a smaller field here would suit.

“He ran well here in a maiden last year and we thought he was a bit better than his rating. We knew this race had broke up over the last few years.

“Philip (Byrnes) obviously had to ride for his dad (Charles, Ifallgoeswell) and young Paddy (O’Brien) is up in Leopardstown, he would have probably stood in for him.

“Johnny got the chance and got the job done.

“It looks like he’ll get a bit further, and hopefully he can progress from that now as it’s been a long time coming.

“He has a lot of ability, it’s just been about getting his head in front and getting a bit of confidence.

“He came down here last year and ran quite well, but just blew up. He hadn’t a lot of work done. We thought coming back here for the smaller field would suit him.”
