Shirocco Star could drop down in grade at York next month in an attempt to gain a confidence-boosting win following yet another fine effort at the top level.

Trainer Hughie Morrison may consider the Galtres Stakes on the Knavesmire rather than the Darley Yorkshire Oaks. Both mile and a half races take place on the same day, August 23.

Shirocco Star has proved herself to be one of the leading three-year-old middle-distance fillies, with seconds in the Investec Oaks at Epsom last month and the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh on Sunday split by a third in the Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot.

However, she has not got her head in front this year and the only win of her career so far came in a one-mile maiden at Newbury last October.

"She's a Group One horse who's just waiting to win a Group race, (at the Curragh) she's beaten the horses that beat her on the two previous occasions (Princess Highway and Was)," the East Ilsley trainer told At The Races.

"She will go on any ground on the basis that she's a very tough filly who tries.

"If we could find the right race at the same time as the Yorkshire Oaks - the Galtres - we could look at that, but those races could come too quick.

"There are races around and I'm sure her time will come and hopefully if she stays in training next year she will be able to compete from anything at a mile and a quarter upwards.

"I wouldn't be frightened to bring her back to a mile and a quarter."
