Duke Of Silver came with a well-timed surge to land the spoils in the Devon Inn Dan Sheehan Memorial Handicap Hurdle at Listowel.

The Joseph O’Brien-trained gelding, owned by his sister Sarah, had been fourth over the three-mile trip at Galway on his most recent outing and went to post a 9/2 shot this afternoon.

J J Slevin was rowing along on his mount turning for home but he stuck to his guns well and got on top from Bitofajokelike in the closing stages. Unfortunately that rival appeared to be injured late on. Cinammon Roll came through to grab second, a length-and-a-half behind the winner.

Slevin said:- “He was in good form at home, and we were hoping for a good run.

“He got into a nice rhythm. We didn’t go that quick and I sat nice and handy, and he’s done it well.

“The ground isn’t deep but it’s dead and taxing. He coped with it well.”
