Sky Lantern heads Nell Gwyn field Leading Qipco 1000 Guineas contender Sky Lantern heads 14 runners for Wednesday's Lanwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes at Newmarket. Richard Hannon's Moyglare Stud Stakes winner will break from stall 14 as she attempts to give weight all round in the Group Three contest. The Red Clubs filly was last seen finishing eighth of 14 in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Santa Anita in November. Hannon had intended to run Sky Lantern in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury, with stablemate Maureen heading to Newmarket but his team believe the ground at HQ will be in the former's favour and have opted to shoulder a 3lb penalty rather than run her on unsuitable ground at the weekend. Assistant trainer Richard Hannon jnr said: "Maureen is going to Newbury now and Sky Lantern goes to Newmarket. She was primed for Newbury anyway so it makes no difference. We put them in both races so we could have the choice. "The reason we preferred Newbury for Sky Lantern was that she wouldn't have a penalty there, but the ground is going to be soft and she does need good ground." Hannon will also be represented by Light Up My Life who won twice last season before making the frame in both the May Hill and Oh So Sharp Stakes. Waterway Run, who won the Oh So Sharp and finished two places in front of Sky Lantern in America, is set to re-oppose for Ralph Beckett whose team have hit the ground running. Luca Cumani won this race with Fantasia in 2009 and he saddles a likely danger in Rockfel Stakes runner-up Nargys while William Buick teams up with William Haggas to ride Leicester maiden winner Lady Nouf. Sir Henry Cecil is set to saddle the fascinating Hot Snap. The Pivotal filly is a half-sister to his top-class racemare Midday and impressed when making a winning debut at Kempton in September. Ed McMahon's Winning Express and the Mark Johnston-trained Baileys Jubilee finished second and third respectively in the Cheveley Park Stakes last term and are set to cross swords again, along with eighth-placed Jadanna. Coincidently, Exactement, Reyaadah, Sorella Bella and Sound Of Guns complete the field.
