Andy Slattery and Adam Ryan took the bumper at Wexford as Socrates Smiled landed odds of 5/6 in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Mares (Pro/Am) Flat Race over two miles and a furlong.

Always prominent, the Blue Bresil newcomer hit the front over a furlong out and, despite running green in front, went away to beat Certavi Et Vici by seven lengths.

"She's a nice filly, and we couldn't see her beat coming here off her work at home," said Ryan.

“Even before her summer break, she was doing it in schooling races and things.

“She's after coming forward physically for the break.

“When she hit the front today, she idled plenty. I don't know how much I had left. She was very good. In a better race, I think you'll see an awful lot more improvement.

She hasn't been on grass with the way the year has gone, so I think everything about today is going to bring her forward. It's probably better for the future that she didn't have a gruelling race today."
