Solwhit on way home for summer holiday Solwhit is to have a well-deserved holiday following his fine effort in the French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil on Sunday, with a repeat success in the World Hurdle pencilled in as his long-range target for 2014. Although the nine-year-old failed to add the Grade One to his three wins earlier in the year, he found only the French-trained Gemix too good. "He's fine and is on the ferry and should be back home at eight o'clock tonight. He had a couple of hours stop at Ffos Las. They kindly let him stop over there," said County Limerick trainer Charles Brynes. "It was a very good run. He beat the English and Irish probably easier than he has ever beaten them. It was just that he bumped into an up-and-coming young horse from France. "We have no excuses, we were beaten by a better horse on the day." Solwhit had been off the track for almost two years before finishing second on his comeback run at Punchestown on New Year's Eve. He then showed he was as good as ever, chalking up wins in the Limestone Lad Hurdle, the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at Cheltenham and the John Smith's Liverpool Hurdle at Aintree. He is set to follow a similar route next season. "He'll have a good long break now and you probably won't see him until close to Christmas time," said Byrnes. "We'll probably follow the same programme as last year. I imagine the World Hurdle at Cheltenham will be the target again."
