Somehow proved much too good for her opponents in the Group Two Charm Spirit Dahlia Stakes at Newmarket.

Aidan O'Brien's filly was making a swift reappearance after having claimed a Listed prize at Gowran last Sunday and was the 13-8 favourite under Ryan Moore.

Elbereth set the fractions in front and saw off the majority of her rivals, but had no answer when Somehow ranged up alongside and the Ballydoyle inmate comfortably extended three and a quarter lengths clear at the line.

Elbereth was a long way clear of the remainder in second.

O'Brien said: "We're delighted with her. We thought she was a very nice filly last year.

"She loves following pace and she quickens very well.

"She also likes fast ground, which is also a big help to her. She loves racing. She's very straightforward.

"We might have a look at the Lockinge (Newbury) or something like that."

Moore said: "Her two runs this year have been excellent.

"I think she's shown herself to be a high-class filly and she's dealt with them very easily."
