St. Nicholas Abbey works well at the Curragh

Aidan O’Brien worked twenty of his horses after racing at the Curragh today including Ante-post Epsom Derby favourite St. Nicholas Abbey.

The star three-year-old worked in a group of ten horses over one mile and having been held up by Sam Curling in the early stages he quickened up nicely on the soft ground to finish a close second to Mikhail Glinka (more vigorously ridden) in the hands of Joseph O’Brien.

St. Nicholas Abbey made his debut at the Curragh last August and is unbeaten in his three outings to date. He shot to the head of the Derby betting following a most impressive display when landing the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy at Doncaster in October.

Aidan O'Brien speaking after the work said: "I was happy with how all the horses worked. A number of them are in contention to run in the English Guineas, but no decisions will made for a few weeks yet.

"Jan Vermeer got a stone bruise and is doing some swimming so he is about a week behind the others, but is still in the Guineas picture. Steinbeck has had a little set-back and will not make it to Newmarket. Lily Langtry is another that won't make Newmarket.
