Former point-to-point winner Clonshire River appreciated the step up in trip as the Eddie and Patrick Harty trained gelding opened his account under Rules in the Anglo Printers Handicap Chase at Limerick.

Prominent in the early stages under Kieren Buckley, the eight-year-old headed I Am Connect after the fifth fence.

Making the rest, the 9/1 chance was strongly pressed my race favourite Garde Le Peche entering the home straight.

However, with Buckley having kept a bit in reserve, the son of Pour Moi asserted on the approach to the last before running out a comfortable one-and-a-half length winner.

Eddie Harty commented: "It has been a long time coming with him. His very first run for us was a very good run when he looked like he could go on to things but he went backwards.

"He has had bits of issues in fairness to him but likes the summer ground and we freshened him up since his last run.

"He was ready for a run, this race just happened to come up and I knew the ground would be quicker down here. The conditions of the race suited and Kieren has always said that 2m4f would be well within his compass and he was right.

"His attitude has never been bad and his jumping won it for him really today."
