Tatenen heading straight to Cheltenham

Irish Independent Arkle Chase hope Tatenen will probably go straight to Cheltenham without another run, according to his trainer Paul Nicholls.

Tatenen won his first two starts over fences but lost his unbeaten record when finding Follow The Plan too strong in a thrilling finish to the Durkan New Homes Novices' Chase at Leopardstown on St Stephen's Day.

That run convinced Nicholls to head straight to the Festival. 'We'll probably go to Cheltenham fresh with him and not go for a run before. He's a better horse fresh,' the trainer told sportinglife.com.

'He's fine. The Leopardstown race just took a little bit out of him with the travelling involved. I think I probably learned that it wasn't a good thing going to Ireland with him.'

'I had him in the Irish Arkle but he definitely won't be going there. I just need to get him back to his best for Cheltenham now.'

The five-year-old is currently a top-priced 6/1 favourite with Ladbrokes for the Arkle.
