Trainer Charles Byrnes and his son jockey Philip Byrnes scored with Spy (17/2) in Listowel’s Join Racing TV Handicap Hurdle today, with the pair being non-committal on appeal plans following a Limerick disqualification last Thursday.

The pair’s Marian Avenue had passed the post in front at Limerick but, following the controversial race, was disqualified as rider Byrnes had been adjudged to have ridden dangerously. Today, each made no comment in regard to any prospective appeal decision but have until tomorrow to finalise plans.

Racing wide on Spy today, Byrnes junior delivered the seven-year-old to lead on the run-in and scored by a half-length from Becasse .

Charles Byrnes reported “Philip kept Spy out on the good ground which made all the difference and while it didn’t look likely for a while, he kept at it well.

“He had a good run here last September but is a small bit of a monkey and keeps a bit to himself. Philip was good and strong on him and we’re delighted to get the win with him.”
