They pulled several lengths clear of the rest of the field, and he is very likely still well handicapped despite going up 4lb for that run. He came into the season with a bit of promise, having won a bumper impressively by six lengths, but showed little in his maiden hurdle starts. However, the six-year-old looks much more at home at this level and can open his account over hurdles. 5.10 Limerick - Flemens Intrest FLEMENS INTREST was an impressive winner on handicap debut last time out over this course and distance. The lightly-raced nine-year-old was making his first appearance in over 400 days and just his fifth career start overall, but he bolted up - travelling all over his rivals and winning with plenty in hand. That performance earned him a 10lb rise from the handicapper, but there’s every reason to believe he’s capable of more. He’s a full brother to Beshabar, best known for winning the Scottish Grand National, but also a prolific hurdler - winning four of his six starts over the smaller obstacles and reaching a career-high mark of 149. Flemens Intrest is a long way off that level on a mark of 98, but the manner of his victory suggests he could be rated much higher in time. 5.45 Limerick - Good Girl Kathleen The final race on the card is a bumper for mares who have yet to win. Several of these have run and placed in bumpers, though, and it may pay to side with the Emmet Mullins-trained GOOD GIRL KATHLEEN. While she hasn’t raced under National Hunt rules before, she has run in point-to-points, placing in two of them. Her pedigree suggests she should go well in a bumper, being related to two bumper winners in Maughreen and Sweettowatch, as well as Blow Your Wad, who didn’t manage to win a bumper but was placed in two and also finished fourth in a Grade Two bumper at Aintree. There’s a lot to like about her profile, and there’s every chance she’s several classes above this field. The yard has produced some classy bumper winners in recent years, and Good Girl Kathleen may be another exciting prospect for Emmet Mullins.
