Thursday´s Stable Quotes with AT THE RACES

3.40 AYR - CHERISHED NUMBER

Ian Semple said: 'He´s been a bit disappointing recently, but I´m sure he can still win races. To be fair to him, we have been racing on very fast ground for a lot of the summer and that doesn´t really help him. When he´s had a little cut, he has run better. He´s probably not the most genuine horse in the yard and he won´t do a stroke at home. But his handicap mark has dropped to around 70 and that may give us the chance we need. The alternative is to run him in claimers and he´s entered for one of those at Ayr on the Thursday of the Western Meeting. Ideally, he needs to get some cover. With too much daylight, he downs tools.'

4.10 AYR - WEST HIGHLAND WAY

Ian Semple said: 'He´s a nice horse, every bit as good as Appalachian Trail. He won despite the ground being too lively for him at Ayr and, as it turned out, it was a mistake to go to Ripon. He never travelled that day - he just couldn´t seem to get balanced - and he came back jarred up. We gave him a nice break, though, and his recent work has suggested he´s on the way to being where he was earlier on in the season. I don´t have any doubt that there´s a good handicap in this fella and he has the ideal attitude for a racehorse. All he does is eat and sleep at home - giving you only the bare minimum in his work - but there´s a big engine available for racedays. He´s lightly-raced and can only get better. He´ll make a smashing four-year-old.'

4.40 AYR - SCOTLAND THE BRAVE

James Bethell said: 'I think she needs soft ground over seven and faster over a mile ? it was pretty tacky at Ayr and I think it found her out and she didn't quite get home. She has stayed on 70 which I think is a winnable mark.'
