Having failed to complete on his only two point-to-point starts, the Noel Kelly trained Tonightsagoodnight landed a tidy gamble when making a winning Rules debut in the John Thomas McNamara Series (Q.R.) Maiden Hurdle at Sligo.

Supported from 20/1 into 17/2, the Jolly Men Racing Syndicate owned four-year-old proved that confidence to be well placed.

Tracking the leaders for much of the contest, the gelding went second under Dara McGill after jumping the penultimate flight.

Coming through to head leader Gunnery Sergeant at the last, the eventual winner stayed on well for a n eight-and-a-half length victory.

Dara McGill said: "He popped away and came up out of my hands three out. When I had a look ahead of me, they all seemed to be stopping and I knew there was no rush to get there.

"He jumped well overall and was still green at the back of the last, so he should give the (Jolly Men Racing) syndicate a bit of fun.

"Something like a novice hurdle in the north of England might be an option for him next."
