Tornado Kiss makes the breakthrough in Cork opener A runner-up on her first two starts, Tornado Kiss deservedly made the breakthrough in the opener at Cork this afternoon, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden. Trained by Andy Slattery and ridden by his son Andrew, the Acclamation bay was returned the clear favourite at 8/11 (11/10 in early shows). Keen in the early stages, the Rathbarry Stud bred victor was soon settled behind the leaders and travelled into the race powerfully from halfway. Pushed along to lead with over a furlong to go, she was briefly ridden in the closing stages and ultimately came home half-a-length to the good. Returned at 17/2, Bad Boy Rizz ran well to take second under Shane Foley, while Ennoble (10/3) was a neck away in third. "She ran a bit free in Naas the last day over six (furlongs) so we dropped her back to five, although she was free again today," the winning handler remarked. "We initially thought she wanted soft ground but Andrew thinks she wouldn't want the ground to be any slower than that. We felt soft ground in Naas got her beaten the last day but she has a lot of speed. "I'll talk to Paul (Cashman) and the Rathbarry team but we'll look at the Cornwallis Stakes now in Newmarket, which is the only Listed race left. It depends what they want to do. "She has a good pedigree and looks like she will improve next year, when she matures." STEWARDS REPORTS * Shane Foley, rider of Bad Boy Rizz, trained by Ross O'Sullivan, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ran around when he hit the front. * Andrew Slattery, rider of Tornado Kiss, trained by Andrew Slattery, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount ran green when in front.
