Tropical Twist Gains First Success at Wexford The Gordon Elliott-trained Tropical Twist (17/2) was the winner of the Treo Eile Mares' Handicap Hurdle at Wexford. The five-year-old daughter of Saddex was fourth at this venue on her previous start at Wexford and, under a power-packed ride from Jack Kennedy, she led just before the final flight and managed to tough it out in front to win by three-quarters of a length from the Paul Power-trained Game Phoenix. “She had a lovely run here the last day," said Kennedy “One jumped slow at the first then, and I jumped into them and lost my position. She got no run after that, but ran a nice race. “We were hoping she’d go close today. She had a great run around and switched out then going to the second-last. She jumped that well and got underneath the last, but was always doing enough. “I jumped the last, kind of in the middle of the hurdle, and she was drifting across so I just let her across and rode her out and she was grand. “She could maybe go up a couple of furlongs, but I wouldn’t be stretching her out too much either.” (Quotes from Gary Carson)
