Two winners for Irish Jockeys in Australia Paul Townend and Mark Walsh both rode winners for the Irish Jump Jockeys team at Morphettville, Adelaide earlier today but those two successes weren't enough to get the Irish riders on top of the points table. They had been whitewashed the previous afternoon in a highweight flat event at Gawler, struggling to fill the last four placings. Here at Morphettvile, Townend got the Irish off to a flier with an easy win in the hurdle on Champion Chestnut with Mark Walsh following up three races later on another well supported favourite Bell Ringer. Davy Condon finished third on Lottyliel here but both Stephen Gray and Townend trailed in on rank outsiders. Townend's winner was trained by that stalwart of the series Eric Musgrove who shipped Champion Chestnut up from Melbourne for the race. “I was very pleased to get an Irish rider, they've been very lucky for me in the past” said Musgrove. The scoring system after three races sees the home team leading the visitors 42 ½ points to 35 ½. Team manager Sean Lynch said that “In all my years coming here I've never found Adelaide so cold. It was the wettest day ever today.”
