Webber Has Cambridgeshire In Mind

Paul Webber will send his smart handicapper Kew Green for the totesport Cambridgeshire on October 1 without a preparatory outing.

The seven-year-old landed the Rosebery Stakes at Kempton early in the season before flopping in a handicap at Epsom´s Derby meeting and being given a mid-season break.

His other big triumph this term came over the Cambridgeshire course and distance of nine furlongs and, with his liking for some cut in the ground, Webber is hopeful of a big run.

He said: 'I gave him a little break but I don´t think he´ll need an actual race before he runs at Newmarket and my plan is to take him away somewhere for a gallop.

'He´s a very active horse and easy to get fit and he obviously likes the Rowley Mile course.'

Although Kew Green is an American-bred, he appreciates some cut in the ground, and Webber added: 'He goes on good or good to firm but if it happens to be on the soft side in October, it will be right up his street.

'He´s a course and distance winner and the handicapper kept him on the same mark after his Epsom run (103).'
