Jagged Edge (22/1) bagged the Curragh’s featured €100,000 Paddy Power Supporting Cancer Trials Ireland Irish Cambridgeshire today, scoring in the colours of one of the day’s race-sponsors Newtown Anner Stud Farm.

Ridden by Martin Hassett, the three-year-old raced keenly and with the pace throughout and having disputed the lead in the final furlong, was an all-out short-head winner, from Genuine Article despite the winning rider losing an iron before the winning the line.

Winning trainer Dermot Weld, successful in the 2019 and '23 renewals this century, reported “both my horses ran super and Coeur D’Or (winner in 2023) ran a cracker finishing fourth.

“I’m delighted with Jagged Edge. He’s a big horse, loves to be fresh and when he won for us in Cork, he looked like he was going to go on but just lost his way. We left him alone and he’s come back nicely. The ground was probably ideal for him and today was the day.

“I was delighted for Maurice Regan and Newtown Anner (sponsors of the earlier juvenile Group 3 fillies’ race), who are great supporters of mine and they bred him. I was delighted that Maurice’s mum Patricia was here today, she’s a great lady.”

Regarding today’s Pat Smullen charity raceday and the race-sponsors, he added, “it’s great to see over a million euros being raised for pancreatic cancer, which is such a wonderful achievement.

"I want to praise Francis Crowley for everything that she does, the whole team and everyone that contributes. It’s such an amazing achievement to be able to raise that kind of money and please God they keep raising more in years to come.”
