Weld pair head Tattersalls Gold Cup quintet

Dermot Weld mounts a strong double challenge in Sunday's Tattersalls Gold Cup with Casual Conquest and Famous Name among the small but select five runner line-up.

Pat Smullen takes the mount on Casual Conquest, and the son of Hernando bids to make it third time lucky in Group One company having been placed in both the English and Irish Derby last year.

He was put away for the year after chasing home Frozen Fire in the Irish Derby at the Curragh in June, and was second to Bronze Cannon in a three-horse affair on his return to action at Newmarket three weeks ago.

'He's in good order. The ground could be too soft for him though, but it's only a mile and a quarter. We will just to have to play it ear,' said Stan Cosgrove, manager of owners the Moyglare Stud.

Weld also saddles French Derby runner-up Famous Name, who represents owner Khalid Abdullah.

He finished second to Curtain Call over this course and distance on his reappearance earlier this month. The ground that day was described as heavy, and connections hope the four-year-old will be able to act on what promises to be even more testing ground this time.

'He certainly acts on soft ground but whether he acts on bottomless is another thing, but it will be the same for them all,' said Teddy Grimthorpe, the owner's racing manager.

'He's fine, and Dermot says he's pleased with him. I just hope it won't be too tactical but it's likely to be fairly tactical with only five runners. You never know.'

The Kevin Prendergast-trained Moiqen, a neck behind Famous Name when third on his latest start, is again in opposition. Jim Bolger's triple Group One winner Lush Lashes is the only filly in the line-up, while the Aidan O'Brien-trained French import Thewayyouare, fourth to French Derby victor Vision d'Etat at Longchamp a month ago, completes the quintet.
