A daughter of Grade 1 winner Augusta Kate, the Denis Hogan trained Cousin Kate stepped up on two moderate opening efforts to readily land the www.tramoreraces.ie Maiden Hurdle at the Waterford track.

Despite being beaten a distance on both her initial outings, the four-year-old was sent off just 13/2 in this ordinary contest.

Held up by Daniel King in the early stages, the Liam Mulryan owned filly went fourth approaching the penultimate flight.

Ridden in third before the last, Cousin Kate quickened up smartly on the run-in to win readily by two-and-a-quarter lengths.

Daniel King said: "She did (show a little bit the last day at Listowel). It wasn't the strongest of races on paper today and it kind of fell apart in front of me, but they all take winning and it was good.

"She's out of a good mare (Augusta Kate), so hopefully she can build on that and win plenty more races."
