Welsh National postponed, Wetherby abandoned Chepstow's Coral Welsh National meeting on Monday has been postponed until Saturday, January 8th. The course remains unfit for racing and there is no prospect of conditions improving sufficiently over the next few days. Officials have moved quickly to save the entire card, however, with the meeting now set for Saturday week. Chepstow were due to race on Sunday, January 9th but have exchanged places in the racing calendar with Sedgefield. "We won't race on Monday and the card will take place on Saturday, January 8th," said clerk of the course Keith Ottesen. "We've got a slot for some races to be televised on the BBC that day. It's great to get the race saved - as long as the weather is all right." Wetherby's meeting on St Stephen's Day has been abandoned due to frost. The fixture, featuring the coral.co.uk Rowland Meyrick Chase, was also abandoned last year. The Yorkshire course are also scheduled to race on Monday, but that meeting is subject to an inspection at 10am on Friday. Clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson said: "It was minus 5C last night and it is only zero now but with a biting wind chill. "It is supposed to be around minus 5C tonight with negative temperatures all day tomorrow. "Christmas night could be as cold as minus 15C and there is no sign of a thaw. "The course is not completely frozen solid but it is in some areas. "We'll inspect at 10am tomorrow for Monday. The track won't change by then, but the forecast might."
