Whittle lands gamble in Clonmel finale Bridie Whittle justified good support in the finale at Clonmel this afternoon when claiming the Rosegreen Handicap Hurdle for Robert Tyner. The Champs Elysees mare was backed from 16/1 this morning into 5/1 and ran out a game winner of the three-miler. Philip Enright produced his mount to challenge going to the second second. She had a narrow advantage over Imperial Tune at the last and dug deep late on to secure a length-and-a-quarter win. The winner had finished mid-division at Punchestown on her return from an absence late last month. "She had been off from a long time so we were pleased with her run in Puchestown the last day over 2m4f,” said Tyner. “We weren't sure about the three-miles today but she seemed to travel well and did everything grand.  "She doesn't do anything classy at home and is workmanlike but she seems to handle that ground well and is comfortable on it.  "Michael Walsh and John Carroll (owners) are from Waterford and had Direct Image with me in the past. She won five consecutive races but they were unlucky as they lost her when she would have made a lovely broodmare." (Quotes by Tom Weekes)
