William Tell justified 4/5 favouritism to win Cork’s Adare Manor Opportunity Maiden Hurdle today, as the Harry Kelly-trained six-year-old improved on a recent course runner-up effort.

The son of Malinas had finished runner-up to Punchestown Champion Bumper-fifth Sunny South West at today’s course last month and today, under Peter Smithers, raced prominently and scored by two lengths from Tippawan Haa .

Trainer Kelly stated “he had a nice run the last day and all he had to do was to maintain that today. He is massive and it wasn’t the original plan to be running him at this time of year but thank God we got there. He was going to win first-time out in a point-to-point on soft ground earlier this year but fell.

“He is owned by a good group and Otto (Kueres, breeder) is here today so I’m delighted for them, although he is for sale.”
