The further Zahrann went the better he was as he pulverised his four rivals in the extended 10-furlong maiden that closed out Cork's card.

He was pushed along in third entering the straight and wore down the leaders over a quarter of a mile from home.

A crack was administered outside the furlong pole and Johnny Murtagh's colt scooted right away to win by an emphatic seven lengths at 1/3 from Des Moines (5/1).

Zahrann had shown plenty of promise when staying on strongly in second to get to within a head of the winner on debut in a Navan maiden last month.

Ben Coen said: "He was still slowly away and is still a big baby. He was on and off the bridle the whole way but, when I grabbed hold of him turning in, he really came alive. He quickened up smartly and lengthened the whole way to the line.

"That trip was very comfortable for him and an extra two furlongs will be within his compass as well.

"We thought he'd do that today, but it is nice to go and do it."
