Formscan - Narrowly denied in an epic renewal of this contest last year, ENERGUMENE has taken his form to a new level since then and his performance in last year's Queen Mother made him the standard bearer in this division. The fact the race has been rescheduled to Cheltenham is another plus and he should have too much for the admirable Edwardstone, who blotted his copybook when unseating in the Desert Orchid. His performance in the Tingle Creek though was of the highest calibre and, as an Arkle winner, returning to this track should hold no fears. Likely to set the pace up front, Editeur Du Gite cannot be underestimated either.

Quotes on Edwardstone (GB)
He wears his heart on his sleeve, he jumps well, goes out and does his thing. I was only half-watching when we could easily have been brought down and I wasn’t sure if we had at one stage, but the gods were shining on us. Thereafter he looked to travel really well and never missed a beat. Full marks to Tom as well — that’s his first Cheltenham winner and he’s given him a cracking ride. Tom is riding out of his skin at the moment. I’ve been training 22 years and he’s only my third stable jockey. He reminds me of Choc (Robert Thornton) as he has the most laid-back attitude. If he’s nervous, he doesn’t show it. We’ve always trained the good horses this way. I don’t think Voy Por Ustedes or My Way De Solzen came here under-raced and his races have been reasonably spaced out. As I said the other week, he’s just been two or three years in the making. He used to over-race a little bit, but running him in those big handicap hurdles last year was the making of him. People have doubted his jumping, but I’ve never had any worries about it. He’s always had the potential, but these good horses don’t happen overnight. It’s a relief more than anything. It hasn’t really sunk in yet. Thank God it was the second race on the first day! After Edwardstone (GB) finished 1st at Cheltenham on Tue, 15th Mar 2022 1m 7f Chase Good to Soft

Quotes on Energumene (FR)
I was a little worried passing the winning post the first time as his eye was caught by something. The end result was great but I don't know if he was feeling something or was looking at the gate or crossing the road but definitely I wasn't happy with the way he went around the bend passing the stands. Paul thought he was idling in front - he was probably in front on his own and there was nothing to make him race. He loves jumping, has a great appetite for it and you are lucky when you have a horse like that. We won't make any plans, he is in at Christmas, at the Dublin Racing Festival and the Ascot race is there but we won't make any decision until we see how he comes out of this. After Energumene (FR) finished 1st at Cork on Sun, 11th Dec 2022 2m Chase Yielding to Soft
