FormscanBy Mark Nunan - R'EVELYN PLEASURE has enjoyed a fine season and may be able to win this race for a second time. He landed a similar veterans' contest at Limerick over Christmas and followed up at Cork. He ran another sound race at the latter venue last time and stepping back up in trip will suit Sean O'Brien's gelding who won this on good ground two years ago. Big Debates was a close third in last year's renewal and has only run once over fences since then. He has run creditably off his lower hurdles mark a couple of times this season. Padraig Roche has got Shadow Rider back to form over hurdles and he was runner-up in a Listed handicap at Cork last month. This will be his first start over the larger obstacles for well over a year and he is now rated 3lb lower as a chaser but drying ground is a concern for this fragile sort.%A0

That's great. He's a lovely horse, but he's fragile. We train him out of the pool a bit. He's a bit inconsistent, but he did it well today and it's great to get a win out of him. They went very quick. Hopefully, he's alright in the morning and we'll take it from there. I'd say he just handled the ground better than the others, it was very gluey out there. It was music to my ears when I heard it was a bit sticky as I thought it would really suit him. He'll probably go over hurdles, he probably looked more impressive there than he was because of the ground. He’s a ten-year-old now and that’s 11 races that he’s won, he’s a brilliant servant. He’s been a bit in and out this year but would have won here two runs ago when he stumbled at the back of the last so he deserved that. Looking at the race he was meeting them all wrong at the weights but they are all old horses and have two ways of running at this stage so we said we’d take our chance. Hopefully the handicapper won’t react too harshly. They are hard horses to place. We pulled him out of Galway because of the ground and then we ran on similar ground here. It’s loose here so we got away with it. Extreme trips suit him and if we could get three and a half miles that would be great. I had to run him back so quick as he came out of Limerick well. They went no gallop at Limerick, he found things so easy so I had to run him. . He ran well in this race a few years ago and I liked him coming today as it was a small field and Mark (McDonagh) kept it simple. He toughed it out well and is really enjoying his racing. The plan is to go to Thurles, over 2m6f, in 15 days time. We had this horse's grandam who I won two bumpers on (in 1996/7) and my uncle and cousins, who part-own this horse, have been involved with this pedigree forever and a day. . I was expecting him to run well but thought he might have needed it because he hasn't ran since May. We had a little job done with him in May and it seems to have worked. He had been working well at home and we were very happy with him although he is a horse who carries a little bit of condition so can be deceiving. Oliver (Barden, owner) actually mentioned to me today that he was looking on the heavier side but I was happy with him. He is quite gross and always carries a bit of condition.
