FormscanBy John O'Riordan - Although this race is most likely a prep prior to returning to chasing at Punchestown next month, DONKEY YEARS catches the eye off his hurdles mark. The Eric McNamara-trained 10-year-old had somewhat lost his way over fences when last seen but has to be of interest in this discipline off just 116. With the festival just weeks away, the J.P. McManus-owned gelding is unlikely to be found wanting in terms of fitness. Bestaline also has to enter calculations in first-time blinkers. The Gordon Elliott-trained mare is almost certainly better than her bare form suggests, so perhaps the change in headgear will see her in a better light. Tranquil Sea undoubtedly has the ability to feature but Paul Nolan's four-year-old needs to brush up on his jumping in order to do so.

That was nice, he's been placed on his last three runs and he's been very consistent,. I thought Mark (Walsh) was superb on him today. They went very quick early on, he kept travelling well and jumping well. When you go down to the last upsides one of Willie Mullins' you always think you are in trouble but thanks be to God he came out on top. I wouldn't mind having a few more like him, he's the best I have and a lovely horse. I said to Kevin beforehand that the other horses were likely to go mad (fast) on the ground. I hadn't him as ready as I had him going to Tramore and I said to Kevin to ride him to run well and he is a genius at doing that. . He tipped around, never panicked, came home well and you could see that the leaders were starting to walk coming to the last. I thought the two miles would be too sharp for him, but he is a great horse who has now won five races and retains his enthusiasm as a 12 year old. . For a short priced favourite maybe you'd expect him to do it better than that but he was careful over his hurdles. He has been careful in his early races but has warmed to things and obviously his last few runs were better. Sean said he had plenty horse under him going to the line though and it is nice for the owners Anne and Jim Coffey and Susan, who are brilliant supporters of ours. We have had a frustrating year for them but it is nice to get one on the board. We bought him off Richard O'Brien (trainer), who has been lucky for us and we've had a good association with him. He wasn't expensive and was originally bought for a four-year-old bumper but I didn't have the patience to hold on and wait. it was a tactical race, we went steady and I had to get into it sooner than ideal. When I got there, I had to send him on because I knew Phillip (Enright on Womalko) was going to be tailing me. I never had him down for a quick horse but he changed gear there down the hill when we were fairly winging it. I nearly swerved here to go to Thurles as I thought the ground would be too quick in Thurles so it worked out well. He is progressive and is a chaser in the making, he's a massive horse. I have him in Cork next week in a 0-130 handicap - I'm suspended myself but we will see what the handicapper does.
