Midweek Voices in full cry on a Sunday
He’s a grand old horse, but he was just a bit frustrating - he always showed me a bit at home. He just didn’t seem to be finding much off the bridle. I’d say maybe the step back in trip (extended 2m3f) helped him today. He probably had the form to win it, on his best hurdles form. His jumping was a little bit sketchy, but he jumped well today bar one. It’s great to get a win out of him today. We said we’d let him take his chance after Tramore - in a seven-runner handicap chase at this time of year you have to take your chance. He did it well and we’ll probably look at another handicap off a lighter weight. He’s in again at Clonmel (on Wednesday). He didn’t get much of a race there, but that ground might take a bit out of him. He got the job done today and it’s grand to get a winner to start 2025.
Maguire seals Amateur National on Nine Graces
We were kind of expecting that, she’s very fit. When she was running over hurdles, off a higher mark, three miles on soft ground was what she wanted. Her jumping was a revelation there, she was very quick. She’s not the biggest mare but she’s just very accurate. She might squeeze in, off her revised mark, into something nice - a nice, staying handicap chase like the Leinster National in Naas. She’s a winter soft-ground mare. I’d be hoping next year that she could make up into a graded mare over a trip. I’m delighted for Finny, who is working full-time for us. He’s getting the opportunities as we’re splitting the rides between Sean (Flanagan) and himself. He’s a very good rider.

Londonofficecallin 'back on track' in Punchestown
He was great, he surprised me on the ground. He’s a small enough horse and most of his form is on nice ground. I wasn’t sure coming here, but I said we’d try and qualify him if nothing else. It’s a win and you’re in. Ask Anything was fourth and he could also potentially aim for the final. The last day (unplaced in Navan) was a bit of a head scratcher. He’s certainly back on track there.
