Ballyburn battles to Labrokes victory
Kempton was too sharp for him, and it lit him up as well so he was fairly lit today with Paul. He eventually got him settled and was afraid to move on him then in case he took off again, so he didn’t do any racing until after the last. He did what he usually does, he quickened up from the last to home. He looks a decent sort. He’s bred to get three miles, so it was fascinating that he was able to do what he did over two miles. His jumping was improved today and going at the pace they were going over that trip, it was going to be easier for him.
Bordes claims Grade 1 in facile fashion
The horse was very keen and free the whole way, but Paul just let him have his head going down to his hurdles and he jumped way better than Christmas. We did a lot of schooling with him since the last day. When he looked to be in a lovely position then the loose horse set him mad. Paul had to yank him back, but he still put in a huge jump in at the second last. I think he’ll have no trouble jumping fences after that. It was a tremendous performance. This horse didn’t walk like you would like one to walk at the sales, but we took a chance on him with his page. I don’t see any need to go up in trip because he’s going to need a very fast pace in his races.
Solness too hot to handle again at Leopardstown
Normal gives Cromwell another big DRF pot
The step up in trip and niceish ground suited and Conor was very good on him. He’s a good rider.
State collects again after Lossiemouth exit
Both jockeys went out with no instructions, and I was happy to let them do what they wanted, ride their own race. They were setting it up to be a hell of a race. It’s disappointing for Rich, the public — it’s disappointing for us all. It was just one of those things and Paul was lucky not to be brought down. Paul was happier that he was back to himself. He only does whatever he has to do, and only wins a length or two when he’s right. Paul never waivers from him. There was never any question (which horse he was going to ride).
Emmet Mullins doubles up with McLaurey
I was sure I had an improving horse coming here today. He’s definitely improved every run. He’s mentally not there yet, although Mark said today was the first time he ever travelled in a race.
Fever gives Mullins seven for the weekend
She surprised me the first day and she’s surprised me again today.
