Swelter looks another hot prospect for Weld
I’d say it was a good renewal of the race, a very competitive Group 3. I was delighted with her as it was only her second start. She won over a mile here last year and my concern was that seven might be a little too sharp for her. My reason for running her was that she would learn a lot from it, and I thought she came home very nicely. We’ll see how she comes out of the race, but my present thoughts would be to head for something like the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She is a filly that will hopefully get ten furlongs as the season progresses.

I thought he’d never get his head in front, and he was going up and up in the handicap as well. He had a nice draw and was sitting there waiting. Luckily the gap opened, and he was able to take it. I’ve had blinkers on him, cheekpieces on him, we’ve tried everything, and he did it today with nothing. We’ll keep him at seven furlongs or a mile and hopefully he’s got a taste for it now.

He gets his turn every so often and is a prolific winner in the past. He’s a nine-year-old now and there is still life in him. We’ll go on for the summer with him and I’m delighted for Paul (Sweeney, owner) who is a gentleman to train for. It’s a nice day to get a winner and he could come back as he seems to like it around here. He’s a real pet of a horse and he was swinging there with Shane and really loving it. He’s still enjoying life even after all the miles that he’s put up over the years.
