An enquiry was held into the running and riding of THEATRE MIX, ridden by Rex Dingle, and trained by Jackie du Plessis, which was in the rear until making some late headway in the home straight to finish fourth, beaten 21 ½ lengths. The rider and the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported a post-race examination of THEATRE MIX failed to reveal any abnormalities. The rider stated that his instructions were to jump off last, as the mare has been keen in her races, get her settled and ride her as he found her. He further stated that THEATRE MIX jumped a bit novicey and he had held on to her head round the final bend as he was conscious that a horse had slipped up there at the last meeting. He had made his effort in the home straight and stated that the mare finished tired. The trainer confirmed the instructions and the fact that the mare has been keen in her races. Their explanations were noted.
