He's a different horse this year, he's a much stronger horse. He's a different animal altogether. He chipped a bone in his knee, and we sent him up to the vet Eric Smith in Armagh and whatever he says, I would believe. He's called Micasso because the man (Michael Keogh) who bred him likes to paint!. He had a good run in Cork last year and we ran him again afterwards in Dundalk when we were trying to put another winner in Colin's (Keane) list. In actual fact, I think he burst. He had finished for the year at that stage. Seamie and I have been playing around for years, this is a hobby for me. This is our first winner together. As he said, he is riding in the German Derby on Sunday, and he just wanted a bit of confidence! He has it now!

My colours again, a great day today. We missed the breeze up with this horse. He was never meant to be in training. We had a virus in the yard, he literally couldn't travel because he had a temperature of 40 and it was a no-go. I was devastated. I sent him to Archie and he ran poor (8th, Nottingham), but it was a first run. Then when I had a few left over from the breeze ups, I said I might as well have him in my team since he didn't win first time out. He duly did it there. I was worried with the weight, I really was as a stone more than a few of them. That is two penalties in England. Anyway, he did it and big thanks to Chris and the lads in the yard. I do think a lot of him, I think he would have made a few quid at the breeze up had he of been there but we missed it. Then I thought, maybe if we win, we could go to the Ascot Sale. He was going to Ascot all year and then he missed everything. You just have to take it on the chin. He's a nice horse to have in the yard and no doubt I'll have him well entered up in a few big races. He's for sale.

We have been knocking on the door, struggling to get a winner, so it is great to kind of kick off the season. She went to Cork and it was very heavy ground and didn't handle it, went to Epsom and got soft ground as well. Probably improving a little bit with every run and I thought she stripped a bit fitter today. The ground is not fast out there, but it is not holding. It is great to have her back and we will probably be going for a premier handicap, and maybe trying to get a bit of black-type then. There was chat about maybe even going to Dundalk next week, but we might skip that. There is one in Cork - she loves Cork, she has won there and was second there. I imagine we will head on to Cork. She does seem to relax (off the front), it is more that when she gets her own way she can get into top speed. She can rush a little bit if she is taken on. She is very fast.

Last-gasp success for Numidia

I didn't think he was up but, he longer it went on, I said 'jeez, maybe'. Mel said yes, he thought he was up. He was trapped on the rails there, one in front and one alongside him and, in all fairness to the young fella, he found his way out of it. He had to solve a few problems out there and he didn't panic. He's a brother of Joey, so he would be well taught anyway. I'm delighted for Mel. He does stay (two miles) and he's down to a nice mark there. Down Royal had gone too soft for him.
