An Cathaoir Mor produced a good debut performance to win. The son of Turtle Island, a proven soft ground stallion, showed all the right qualities and quickened well inside the final furlong for a game win. Previous form in the race was scarce but this gelding looks a fine jumping prospect.
It is difficult to comprehend how Jossestown Lad didn't finish in the first three. The gelding was travelling well early in the straight and looked the winner a furlong out. However, he tired quickly, swished his tail briefly and dropped to fourth close home. He does look a decent sort who should win his share of races.
Michael Bowe's horses don't know how to run badly and his Limestone Cowboy showed a typically gutsy attitude that seems to typify the yard's horses. He has now run his last bumper, and although unsuccessful in this grade, will prove difficult to beat wherever he runs over hurdles, possibly next season.
A Thousand Men was an expensive Landrover Sales purchase and appears to have plenty of ability on this evidence. He kept on well in the straight and looks sure to win races.
Coolnasmear and Dream On ran perfectly respectably while Kirkbride caught the eye when staying on from a long way back to take a never dangerous sixth.
Non-Runners were the three reserves and the withdrawn Bantry Commons (soft ground).
