- Stewards Report
An enquiry was held into the running and riding of Bay Of Intrigue (GB), ridden by Edward Austin and trained by John O'Shea, which was jumped off at the back of the field and raced detached from the other runners in the early stages, before being asked for an effort after jumping the second-last hurdle, whereupon the gelding ran on to finish seventh, beaten by 13¾ lengths.
The rider and the representative of the trainer were interviewed and shown recordings of the race; the Veterinary Officer reported that a post-race examination of Bay Of Intrigue (GB) failed to reveal any abnormalities.
The rider stated his instructions had been to get Bay Of Intrigue (GB) settled and allow the gelding to drop the bridle as Bay Of Intrigue (GB) has a history of being keen at home and of running freely in its races.
He added that after jumping off, the gelding had raced keenly once again, making a mistake at the second hurdle and when asked to join up with the rest of the field Bay Of Intrigue (GB) had continued to pull hard.
He further added that he had asked the gelding for an effort having jumped the second-last hurdle, whereupon he had pushed Bay Of Intrigue (GB) out to the line.
The representative of the trainer confirmed the instructions and stated that she was satisfied the ride accorded with those instructions.
Their explanations were noted.
Following the race, William Marshall reported that Bear Spray (IRE), which was pulled up, ran greenly and Harry Skelton reported that Loughan (IRE), which started favourite and finished second, hung violently left-handed approaching the final hurdle.
Sarah-Jayne Davies reported that Arvico's Light (GB), unplaced, had a breathing problem.
The Veterinary Officer reported that K'chou Du Pecos Aa (FR), placed fourth, had bled from the nose.
