Wexford Fri, 1st Sep, 2023  North Of Nashville I'm delighted for Leo McArdle who is from Castleblayney in Monaghan. He didn't travel down tonight but he has been really patient with her. He is a good, loyal owner and I'm delighted for him as he stuck by her. It was her first handicap chase tonight. She won a point-to-point well on debut and we thought that she was going to be a good lot smarter. She was second in a maiden hurdle but for some reason or another it just hasn't panned out the way we thought it would. She always threatened to do what she done this evening, but we don't have any reason why it's after taking so long. Thankfully she got her act together. Her dam was a good race mare and won eight times. She was an impressive winner of her point-to-point and Colin said he'd hold on to her, as he likes to race the odd good mare and that's what we thought she was going to be. Up until today she has been disappointing. It was a low grade race and in fairness the handicapper had given her a chance. There is no fancy plans, we will just try win another race with her. Maybe she will go back over hurdles and try to exploit her hurdles mark. She is rated something similar over hurdles but is probably a better chaser than she'll ever be a hurdler. Galway Sat, 5th Aug, 2023  Fortunate Lighting She is a good honest filly who ran well here last October when finishing a closing fifth. She had a nice run back in Wexford and we thought she had come on from that,. She came home well and surprised Ray in how well she quickened up. He had a good position but got blocked a bit turning-in and had to sit and suffer, although the leaders came back to him near the finish. She jumps nicely and will go on softish ground, which is a big plus going forward. There is a Listed bumper at Gowran and I think she is up to getting black-type. Ray is with me every morning and is riding a long time. He is very strong and with his experience, his 7lb claim is a bit like having Rob James (experienced point-to-point rider). Ray rides her every day at home and had a lot of confidence in her. We thought she was fairly right going to Wexford but has tightened up a lot since. We had a few quid each-way on.

Limerick Thu, 27th Jul, 2023  Polly's Fortune At the start nobody wanted to make the running so the plan wasn't to make the running but we were gifted an early lead. She had a very good run here last October and while she wasn't herself in Fairyhouse, we gave her a break since and she has strengthened up. She probably isn't a heavy ground filly but that ground suited her well. I'd imagine she'll improve and is versatile distance-wise and could go hurdling now . It is great for David Fenton who bred her and pre-trains horses for the syndicate and is an uncle of James Fenton who has been involved in over 50 winners, through syndicates, in the yard. James is a huge addition, he runs a tight ship with syndicates and keeps getting me winners!
