There aren’t many more exciting horses to watch than the Great Pretender gelding and it’s marvellous that connections give due credence to Jody McGarvey’s expert handling of the seven-year-old. Willie Mullins said of the French-bred recently: “He’ll stick to two miles and we’ll try to keep him and Un De Sceaux apart.” True to his word Mullins has sent Un De Sceaux for the Tingle Creek at Sandown and that looks significant enough given the latter’s Cork connections and the fact that he won this contest last year. Backers of Doctor Phoenix will be encouraged by the fact that he has a track and trip victory on his CV, that coming in a good handicap chase in November 2017. Third in the Gold Cup and fourth in the Grand National, hopefully Anibale Fly will give some encouragement for what could be a fruitful campaign ahead.
