He didn’t miss a beat bar the second last and I’d say it helped him because he would have been in front too soon. He’s only five so we’ll give him another bit of a break before he runs again. She was 16/1 this morning, so it was some shock when the others (ahead of her in the betting) all came out. She probably wouldn't have won otherwise, but I think she'd have been in the money as she ran well here last week. She is a nice mare and will come back here for a Listed novice before Christmas. She is a good ground filly, is getting better with every run, and that will boost her confidence. Her year will be over once the ground gets too soft.

That was lovely. We had actually planned to go chasing with him. We were looking for one of those 110 or less beginners but there were none coming up for a while. He was in good form, I love running horses when they are in good form, and I said to the lads we’d go and try and win another hurdle in the meantime. Hopefully, it won’t put him out of them (beginners' chases) but we’re delighted. He gets two-and-a-half (miles), but a good strong pace at two (miles) definitely suits well as well. He was dropping back in class as well which made a big difference. I thought the Bellewstown race the last day was probably a bit too much anyway, a bit above him. He wants good ground and I was happy the rain didn’t come that they were giving originally. As long as he stays in good form, and the ground is reasonable, we’ll keep running.

She was running well last winter but if she had been younger, I wouldn't have run her during the winter but it was just to get the experience into her. She had been buzzy and I won't say she was a handful but was just that little bit babyish. That ground, jumping out smartly like that and the trip were important to her. She doesn't quicken but has a good high tempo and is a nice one to have for the summer. You'd like to think she'll be a better mare over fences too as she jumps great. Liam (Quinlan) is in with me, so knows her and knows how to ride her, and Martin (Hogan, owner) is from right across the road.

Myself and my father had been keeping a close eye on him (since Wexford). My father left him out in the field for the full day and we watched him. He seemed in good spirits. He went out and he won on Saturday. Went out in the field on Sunday. He did two laps of the gallop Monday and two laps on Tuesday. Then out in the field for the rest of the day. I’m delighted. His jumping wasn't brilliant the day he won his beginners chase here but is getting better and better. Tiernan was very good on him and he jumped very well with him - I keep saying his 7lb claim is invaluable to me. The horse has been very lucky as I was finding soft ground all summer for him and was poking along through but Thurles this winter has really suited him. . I thought the ground was too heavy for him because we always felt he wanted better ground. What worked in his favour was it was a two-miles race and he really stays 2m4f, so flew home. I told Cian to ride the horse as he finds him, but you can't really give jockeys like him instructions as he won a Grade 1 race recently and is a good jockey. The horse had a problem with a leg in the past and had a layoff, but is back now.

She's in good form. I still thought they went a fair gallop early on. To keep at it then was fair going,. I'd say the little bit of softness in the ground helps her now. She gets her toes into it. She had a few little short runs there lately and I'd say it was the ground that caught her a bit. She likes this place too I think. Likes Kilbeggan, a bit like myself.
