Permission was given for Stalingrad (GB) to go early to post, for Mollymook (GB) to wear a red hood to post and for Roman Spring (IRE) to be mounted in the chute, go early to post and wear a red hood to the start.
George Bass, the rider of ARLECCHINO’S GIFT drawn 9, was slow to remove the blindfold resulting in his horse being slow to start.
After being interviewed and shown recordings of the incident, Bass’s explanation that his hand had slipped on the first attempt, before being able to remove the blind on the second attempt, was noted.
Following the race, Daniel Muscutt reported that he eased Stalingrad (GB) for several strides inside the final ½ furlong due to have felt the geldings stride shorten; the Veterinary Officer reported that Stalingrad (GB) had lost its right-fore shoe.
