An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after two separate instances of interference inside the final furlong when Washington Singer (GB), placed second, ridden by Freddie Gordon interfered with Cauvicourt (FR), placed third, ridden by Brenda (GB)n Powell.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of Washington Singer (GB) as despite jinking left on two occasions inside the final furlong and making brief contact with Cauvicourt (FR) on both occasions, Cauvicourt (FR) suffered no loss of momentum, and despite momentarily unbalancing Cauvicourt (FR) and moving the gelding slightly off its intended line Washington Singer (GB) appeared to be holding Cauvicourt (FR) throughout the final furlong with the distance between the two runners being a neck.
The Stewards therefore ordered the placings to remain unaltered.
The interference was found to be accidental as Washington Singer (GB) jinked suddenly left-handed on both occasions despite the rider’s best efforts to correct the gelding.
Following the race, Freddie Gordon reported that Washington Singer (GB), placed second, hung left- handed.
The Veterinary Officer reported that Dark Mystery (IRE), unplaced, had lost its left-fore shoe.
Nick Gifford reported that Ledders (IRE), which was pulled up, had made a respiratory noise.
