Gavin gave Tassarolo a very good ride and while he has only ridden a few horses for us, he had won a maiden hurdle on this horse and is a talented young rider. Gavin rode Tassarolo the last day and knew him, so we kept riding arrangements the same. It was a great result for me and while it was hard luck on the owners (Final Reminder Syndicate) of the runner-up, both horses ran well. The two horses are very similar and there were a lot of people asking me ‘which one?’ today, but they are similarly rated and really I couldn’t split them. Both were going up in trip but it was just which one would see it out better, and the winner did. Tassarolo is owned by our local publican (in the Full Of Hope Syndicate) and unfortunately one of the members John O’Shea passed away the day the horse won his maiden hurdle. He has a rating of 62 on the Flat so can go back to there too so there are options with him.

I actually had a few quid each-way on him,. He ran in Killarney last week and couldn’t get round the bends, he’s a big baby. He ran well here in a maiden on his second last run when he was sixth. He was staying on at the finish then. I told Paddy to be aggressive on him today and make him do it because he can do it when he wants to. At home if you stop riding him around the gallop he’ll stop. He’s just a big lazy devil. I’m delighted. He’s a big raw horse, he’s 17 hands, and I was hoping he’d run well because the bit of ability is there. It was a moderate race but it’s tough to win any event. He seems to like Gowran. There is another one of these races back here in a fortnight’s time so that will be the next plan.

It looked like she ran flat the last day in Navan and has ran 18 times this year, so the brother said to me this morning 'what are you going to Thurles with her for!'. We had planned to give her a break, and only for it being so near on nice ground that we decided to take our chance. Maybe racing on the Flat is buzzing her. The race in Roscommon we were delighted with her. We only got her after she ran over hurdles in Ballinrobe, I got her that evening on the way home. We didn't have a whole lot to do with her, Rory is in Cormac's (Farrell, former trainer) and he had a lot done with her. She ran very well for me in Roscommon and I was delighted, so really fancied her coming here today because she was going very well at home. She settled at home and the same here. She was gamey, she's in good form. I have her in for next week in Thurles and we'll see how she is. We won't rush her back either because she gives it all. The grandson there, James, it is good for him as he took the day off school. He does everything with her at home, so I'm delighted for him. Won in my wife's colours, unfortunately she couldn't be here today as she had to work - somebody has to bring in a few bob!
