All's well that ends well for Fahey in finale

On a card that started with a beaten odds-on favourite for the yard, Peter Fahey closed out Kilbeggan's August 9th fixture with a win, as Appy Getaway made a successful debut in the Well Of Moate INH Flat Race.

Fahey's Astelia (an 8/15 shot, 2nd) was run out of it in the final 50 yards in the opener, but there was better luck for the Monasterevin operator in the last as he struck for local owner/breeders Carmel and Cathal Ennis.

For winning rider John Gleeson he was adding to gains secured at Wexford last evening aboard Fraher Field. The Waterford amateur here got Appy Getaway home by half a length from Ozark's Walk

“We always thought an awful lot of this horse,” said Fahey.

“I wanted to go to Galway but Cathal was keen to have a winner at his local track, with his family and all here. Thank-God it worked out.

“I think he’s a very nice horse. John came back in and said the tight track wasn’t ideal for him, he’s a big strong horse.

“He’s something to really look forward to, if he's not sold. He’s a right good horse for the future.

“He probably wants a little over two miles as well. They went a nice gallop today and what I liked about him was that he showed plenty of guts.

“He won half snug in the end. He’s a great horse to go forward with. If he’s not sold we’ll have great fun with him.”

Mr P.R. O'Neill, rider of Another Belter trained by Paul Hennessy, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his saddle slipped.
