Aidan O'Brien's Amadeus Mozart (10/11f) showed resolution to win the opening maiden over seven furlongs at the Curragh on his racecourse debut.

The Wootton Bassett colt was pushed along by Ryan Moore to head barrier-trial-winner Flanker Jet inside the final quarter of a mile, but he was far from home.

Flanker Jet rallied on his inner while stablemate Dorset challenged on the outer in the closing stages.

Moore drove the leader home by half a length from Dorset (5/1) who kept him more than honest, while 16/1 Ipanema Beach who raced on the stands' side, performed more than creditably in third, beaten a length by the victor as Flanker Jet dropped to fourth.

O'Brien said of the first two: “They are lovely big horses - they were never away, so they are going to come forward plenty.

“Ryan liked him (the winner). He said he was a lovely horse and he wouldn’t mind stepping up.

“He’ll be a lovely horse next year, he’s a very big horse. He was very green.”

Paddy Power kept Amadeus Mozart unchanged at 20/1 for the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.
