Trainer Michael Dods admits it is increasingly likely that his stable stars Mecca's Angel and Easton Angel will lock horns in the Coolmore Nunthorpe at York next month.

Mecca's Angel was a popular winner of the five-furlong Group One last summer and will bid to get her season back on track in the Sapphire Stakes at the Curragh this weekend.

Easton Angel, who is two years younger than her esteemed stable companion at the age of three, impressed in winning her first two starts of the season and was only narrowly denied the hat-trick by Marsha in the City Walls Stakes at York last Saturday.

Easton Angel is bound for the King George Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, after which a Nunthorpe tilt will be strongly considered.

Dods said: "She ran a great race the other day and has come out of it really well, which is the main thing.

"It was a very hot race and it was run in a good time. She travelled through the race so well and there was just nothing that could take her far enough for long enough.

"Fair play to the winner, who is obviously a very good filly as well.

"I think we'll probably go to Goodwood now and we'll see where we are after that."

Asked whether both fillies could run in the the Nunthorpe, the Darlington-based trainer added: " You'd have to say it's looking more likely than unlikely.

"It's not ideal, but there's only one Nunthorpe and the connections of both horses will want to run, I'd have thought.

"They're both in very good form at the moment."
