Much it seems wasn't expected of Regal Power at various stages in his life but the six year old registered his fourth career win at Naas this evening, when taking the www.naasracecourse.com Apprentice Handicap for trainer Marcus Callaghan and jockey Ian Queally.

The son of Royal Applause has been purchased for just E800 (as a yearling), 8,000gns, 2,200 and E3,800 (by Enda Callaghan last October) at various stages but did previously win for trainers Eddie Lynam (twice) and Johnny Murtagh.

Indeed it was Murtagh whose Tagg's Island was Regal Power's immediate victim this evening, as Regal Power finished well for a head win over that rival.

Afterwards Callaghan stated "that's great as he wasn't getting much credit. I always said he wanted a mile as he has no gears - he comes from behind and plugs on.

"Over six and seven he's been doing his best at the finish. He's in tomorrow (at Leopardstown) and if he's okay he'll go."
