The Fozzy Stack trained Bay Colony recorded the first victory of her career when keeping on gamely inside the final furlong to claim the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Limerick.

Rated 89, having finished third on her reappearance at Naas last month, the daughter of New Bay relished this step up to middle distances.

Held up in the early stages under Seamie Heffernan, the 2/1 chance moving stylishly into third place entering the straight.

Joining leaders Jannah Star and Matrice over two-furlongs out, Bay Colony had to work hard before asserting inside the last 150 yards to win going away.

Fozzy Stack said: "We knew the distance was a bit short for her over a mile at Naas the last day but thought we might get away with it, although the two who finished in front of her are quite smart. Today, she looked as though all she does is stay.

"Her pedigree has plenty speed in it but when I looked at it properly this morning, the second-dam finished second in a November Handicap. We'll try to get her black-type now although she wouldn't want firm in the going description."
