Benbulben in line for hurdling debut on Saturday

Mount Benbulben, who won two bumpers last season for Gillian Callaghan, could make his hurdling debut over 2m at Galway on Saturday.

The 6yo son of Beneficial was last seen beating Lovethehigherlaw, who subsequently won the Grade 1 Champion Bumper at the Punchestown Festival, by an impressive eight lengths at Limerick in March,

Since that run he was bought by Barry Connell for £250,000 at the Cheltenham April Sales and is now under the care of Gordon Elliott.

Interestingly Mount Benbulben is the first horse owned by Barry Connell to be in training with Elliott.

Having won a point-to-point at Tinahely in January on soft ground he then won his two bumpers on soft to heavy.

Elliott said on Monday afternoon: "It will all depend on the ground whether he will run or not. He is in good form and he is a nice horse to look forward too."
